A Fear of the Known

It’s not that hearing the vitriol spewed from the candidates should be bothersome to us because those rhetorical outrages are given media air time.  What is bothersome is that this spiel is turning out record numbers to the voting booth. The anger and frustration that has been ignored for so long by the Republican Party has a voice and that voice has garnered a large number of voters that the Republican party has never seen before.

FT_16.02.26_superTuesdayExamining the table, the extent of the voting population of the South is astounding and they are turning out in record numbers for the Republican ticket.  In contrast, the democratic ticket had a much lower turnout in comparison, though minorities did vote for the Democratic ticket.  For example, in South Carolina voter turnout declined 30%, while the Republican ticket increased by 26%.

In 2008, voter turnout for the Democratic ticket were in record numbers.  As for the 2016 vote, there is record voter turnout numbers, but this time for the Republican ticket.   The majority populace does not vote on most occasions and yet are turning out in record numbers.  Should we be afraid of history repeating itself again…
